چکیده

We have studied the effect of fragmentation and energy conservation in the Eikonal-Regge model. A generalized eikonal representation involving multiimpact-parameters is given for the elastic and inelastic amplitudes when fragmentation takes place. The generalized eikonal function depends on more than one impact parameter which describes a many-body potential. In the strong absorption model and at high energy, however, the elastic amplitude can be approximated by a single impact parameter representation with an effective eikonal function. As a result of the fragmentation, we find that although ~~ and oT still increase as Qn2 s, their ratio is no longer l/2. Instead, it is the sum of the elastic and diffractive cross sections which remains to be one half of the total cross section. To enforce the energy conservation, we propose a thermodynamic approach by introducing an impact-parameter-dependent temperature. Using well-known thermodynamics relations, we obtain various corrections to the naive Eikonal-Regge model predictions due to energy conservation. Experimental consequences are discussed. *Work supported in part by the U. S. Atomic Energy Commission and in part by the National Science Foundation under Grant No. NSF GP40908X. ‘fAlfred P. Regge-eikonal Approach and Its Off-shell Extention versus Experimental Data

V. A. PETROV AND A. V. PROKUDIN Institute For High Energy Physics, 142284 Protvino , Russia E-mail: [email protected] [email protected] We develop an off-shell extention of the Regge-eikonal approach which automatically takes into account off-shell unitarity. We argue that exclusive vector-meson production cross-sections measured at HERA can be fairly described with classical universal Regge...

Investigation of the rock blast fragmentation based on the specific explosive energy and in-situ block size

The assessment of fragmentation through blasting and therefore subsequent crushing and grinding stages is important in order to control and optimize the mining operation. Prediction of the mean size of fragmented rock by the rock mass characteristics, the blasting geometry, the technical parameters and the explosive properties is an important challenge for the blasting engineers. Some of the ef...

Validity of the Eikonal Approximation*

We summarize results on the reliability of the eikonal approximation in obtaining the high energy behavior of a two particle forward scattering amplitude. Reliability depends on the spin of the exchanged field. For scalar fields the eikonal fails at eighth order in perturbation theory, when it misses the leading behavior of the exchange-type diagrams. In a vector theory the eikonal gets the exc...

A Review of the Soft Pomeron a 2 Deep Inelastic Scattering

Soft pomeron fits reproduce all zero-Q 2 data for light quarks, but run into problems at HERA for heavy mesons and for high Q 2 , and at the Tevatron for W diffractive production. I review the basic properties of the soft pomeron, and outline the possibilities which have been considered to account for the new data. At high energy, pomeron exchange controls total cross sections, single-and doubl...

Comparison of Transfer-to-Continuum and Eikonal Models of Projectile Fragmentation Reactions

Spectroscopic properties of nuclei are accessible with projectile fragmentation reactions, but approximations made in the reaction theory can limit the accuracy of the determinations. We examine here two models that have rather different approximations for the nucleon wave function, the target interaction, and the treatment of the finite duration of the reaction. The nucleon-target interaction ...
